Letchworth Cycling Strategy

We are pleased to launch the first phase of our cycling strategy, which we hope will help improve safe and accessible cycling for all of Letchworth’s residents and visitors.

Cycling Strategy Report

We instructed consultancy firm, Steer Davies Gleave to undertake a review of the existing cycle network, current and emerging policy and an analysis of the town’s current cycling provisions. We also asked them to recommend possible enhancements to the cycle infrastructure.

Their report is provided in full and can be accessed below and includes a series of possible improvement schemes.

We'd like to thank those local groups who contributed to the report, including Transition Towns Letchworth and the Letchworth Forty Plus Cycling Club, who put together a detailed report on the existing cycle network and participated in a cycle around the town with representatives from the County Council, Foundation and our consultants.

During the summer we invited feedback on a Cycling Strategy for Letchworth. Having recieved lots of great feedback, we've now finalised the strategy in-line with that feedback. To accompany the finalised strategy document is a summary document that outlines the feedback and changes to the overall strategy made as a result.

How can we enhance and extend cycle routes in Letchworth to help create a comprehensive network, making cycling an easy and pleasant transport choice?

How can we make it easier and safer for all to cycle in and through residential areas?

What would improve access to bicycle to key destinations in Letchworth Garden City, including the town centre, station and leisure centre?

What would give people the confidence and skills to cycle and encourage positive and safe interactions between cyclists and road users?
