Representatives from Bicester look to create a new eco development

Last Tuesday (24 July), Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, a self-funding charity and major landlord in the world’s first Garden City, hosted representatives from Bicester looking to create a new eco development of up to 5,000 homes.

Josh prepares for his interview on South Korean TV

Last week I supported our Curator at the First Garden City Heritage Museum, Josh Tidy, as he was interviewed by a South Korean TV channel about Letchworth Garden City. Questions were mixed and varied, ranging from the founding principles of the Garden City, to how Letchworth has evolved and adapted to change over the past century or so.

Our Governors play a key role in the direction of our organisation and in turn, the development of Letchworth Garden City. We’re currently looking to recruit a General Governor with the right skills and experience they can bring to the team. General Governors make up 14 of our 30 Governors and are appointed by our Board of Management.

Yesterday our Chairman, Colin Chatfield was invited to North Hertfordshire District Council offices as part of a welcoming party for Mrs Christine Bonner and a team of walkers as they trek 150 miles in 10 days to raise money for the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Fund.

We are saddened by the news that the Heritage Foundation’s first Chairman, Eric Lyall passed away on August 9, 2012 following a short illness.

The Spirella Building

It was 100 years ago since the first brick was laid to build the magnificent Spirella Building. Built between 1912 and 1920, the American Spirella Company revolutionised the manufacture of corsets, and came to Letchworth Garden City in 1910, originally operating out of sheds on Nevells Road.
