We are pleased to have supported Street Dance Productions with a grant towards a programme of Street Dance classes.Run in partnership with Howard Cottage Housing Association, classes are open to Letchworth residents aged between 7 and 17. They are free of charge – removing the cost barrier often associated with such activities. During the course students work on two dance routines working towards a performance at the Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage in November.

Young people in Letchworth will now have greater access to a professional counselling service thanks to a grant to Tilehouse Counselling from the Heritage Foundation.Based in Hitchin, Tilehouse Counselling is a charity working with adults and young people aged 13+ across North Hertfordshire.Nationwide, one in 10 children suffers from depression, anxiety or another diagnosable mental health problem. There’s a growing need for counselling for young people, reflected locally by increasing waiting lists.

Last autumn we helped local charity Jackie’s Drop In to secure new premises and granted £10,000 towards the cost of core refurbishments to their new site. As well as awarding the grant, our Property Team worked with the centre to draw up a specification list for the unit, which was transformed into a bright and welcoming space for users and staff alike. We caught up with the team to see how has settled into their new home.

Earlier this year we awarded 17 year-old Imogene Blackburn-Horgan (Immy) a grant of £750 to help support her as she learns new skills and gains valuable experience on voluntary placements in Berlin. Immy has secured a placement with the Federal Office for Family and Civil Society and a secondary placement with the charity Give Something Back to Berlin.

Earlier this year we awarded Letchworth Cricket Club a grant of £12,000 towards the refurbishment of two lane cricket nets at Whitethorn Lane.

Sadly everyday people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Foodbanks have become a vital support to many, not least here in Letchworth, where the towns foodbank supported by The Trussell Trust has been in operation since 2012. We spoke with warehouse manager Sue Attwood, to find out more about the operation…
