Sadly everyday people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Foodbanks have become a vital support to many, not least here in Letchworth, where the towns foodbank supported by The Trussell Trust has been in operation since 2012. Repairs to Letchworth’s Liberal Catholic Church will soon be underway, thanks to a grant of £3,600 from the Letchworth Heritage Foundation.

Back in November, we awarded the Hertfordshire Sports Partnership a grant of £6,500 to help fund an affordable weekly amateur boxing club in Letchworth for children aged between seven and 15. Five months on, we’ve caught up with the team to see our grant in action.

Last summer, we awarded Street Dance Productions £3,100 to run a series of dance workshops during the summer holidays and into the autumn. The sessions culminated in a performance at the Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage in November.

Last year we awarded the Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living a grant of £7,000 to fund 70 positive movement classes across the town.Based on a form of Yoga and the principles of the Alexander Technique, the classes are specifically for older people and those with mobility problems.  Attendees are taught how to make changes in posture and simple movements to minimise pain and muscle strain.

Talented dancer Kiera Brunton has been awarded £1000.00 to support her in her final year at the Emil Dale Academy, Hitchin.With her sights set on a career in musical theatre, Kiera has excelled in her studies towards an Extended Diploma in this field and is tipped for great things by her teachers.   Our grant will go towards covering some of her course fees, enabling Kiera to continue her training and development.
