Community Award winners announced

The winners of the 2021 Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation Community Awards have been announced.

Nominations were received from the public throughout December and January. Each nominee was chosen for their contribution and dedication to Letchworth Garden City and its community. The public were invited to submit nominations for individuals, groups, and charities who had been active in one or more of the following areas:

  • Learning support for children and young people
  • Helping the community in an exceptional way
  • Supporting vulnerable families
  • Tackling isolation of older people
  • Improving mental health and wellbeing
  • Keeping people active

Outstanding Individual Awards

Natalie Carter who is the Musical Director of ‘The Garden City Singers’, inspired her peers during the pandemic by making a conscious effort to maintain communication throughout the lockdown. Her ‘the show must go on’ attitude kept the group together and allowed rehearsals to take place over Zoom and in her back garden. Although Natalie has other commitments which take up much of her time, she showed her passion for the choir by finding time to dedicate to the group during uncertain times.

Community Awards 2022

Best Community Group

Letchworth Romanians Association meet regularly at Mrs Howard Memorial Hall and have a schedule of activities and classes for all ages. Through their hard work, they have succeeded in uniting the Romanian community in North Herts and their not-for-profit organisation has allowed members’ skills to be developed and uncover talents that had previously gone unrecognised.

The group also highlights the importance of having active relationships with background, culture and traditions. Their focus on the support and development of the children in their community helps build a future where the younger generation will be valued with skills and knowledge of their heritage.

Graham Fisher, Chief Executive, said, "Through these awards the Foundation is able to recognise and appreciate some of those people and organisations who actively contribute to supporting and strengthening our community and making Letchworth Garden City a great place to live. It’s wonderful to have such inspiring winners once again this year and to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do."
