I was elected to the Board in 2007 and since then I have always tried to utilise the business experience I gained during my 40 year marketing career in the chemical industry to the work of the Foundation. 

Since becoming Chairman in 2009, I have gained experience of leading the Board of Trustees through what has been a significant period of change which has seen new leadership and executive staff appointed and a re-organisation of our staff base who have helped us improve both our external and internal culture.

I am proud that we have now developed a new Foundation culture which underpins our work in managing the endowed Letchworth Estate and the delivery of our charitable commitments on behalf of the community.

Particularly pleasing is the progress we have made with regard to our engagement with the Letchworth community and feedback suggests that we are increasingly being seen as an open, transparent, approachable and consultative organisation.

Our current focus is on the identified areas of social need in our town and ensuring our charitable activities are aligned accordingly so that all residents can enjoy Letchworth as a place to live, work, socialise and be active.

One examples is our charitable support for primary school children, some of whom struggle with their behavior which affects their ability to learn and an aligned project that supports the families of these children, helping with parenting skills and improving attitudes to learning.

The Town Centre continues to be a challenging retail environment but we have successfully attracted more food offers which supports a more vibrant night-time economy driven by our cultural offer at the Broadway Cinema/Theatre and Gallery.

I thoroughly enjoy my role at the Foundation and will continue to champion its strong support for the Letchworth community.
