Letchworth Garden City has joined towns from across the country in a nationwide celebration of culture, creativity and community as part of its bid to become the UK's first ever Town of Culture 2028. The bid coincides with the town's 125th anniversary in 2028, creating a unique opportunity to showcase Letchworth's pioneering heritage, vibrant cultural offer and strong community spirit on a national stage.
As part of the initiative, Letchworth submitted a digital postcard to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), highlighting what makes the world's first Garden City such a special place to live, work and visit. The postcard now appears on the official UK Town of Culture digital map alongside entries from communities across the UK.
Visitors to the map can explore the stories, heritage and cultural ambitions of towns taking part in the competition while discovering what makes each place unique. The collection of postcards will also become part of the archive at the National Museums Liverpool, creating a lasting record of this moment in the competition.
Letchworth's bid is rooted in the town's founding values of creativity, community and innovation, celebrating 125 years of pioneering ideas while looking ahead to an ambitious cultural future shaped by local people.
