Broadway Gallery is excited to announce the opening of three new exhibitions this spring, showcasing the work of bursary-winning artists as part of the Letchworth Open Bursaries 2025 programme. The scheme supports artists in developing and presenting new work, while fostering a connection between local audiences and contemporary art.
Opening Friday 24 April, the exhibitions feature Callum Abbott, Malcolm Barrett, and Talia Giles, each bringing a distinctive perspective informed by place, personal experience, and experimental practice.
The artists were selected from over 450 submissions to the fourth edition of the Letchworth Open Exhibition, each receiving a £1,200 bursary to create new work through the prestigious Letchworth Open Bursary Programme.
Visitors are invited to engage with the exhibitions through bookable workshops and classes led by the artists, offering a unique opportunity to explore creative techniques and gain insight into their processes.
This year’s Bursary exhibitions include:
Callum Abbott
Grunt
Abbott presents Grunt, a series of abstract, energetic drawings that evolve spontaneously without a fixed plan. His work combines bold shapes, repeated patterns, and unexpected materials, encouraging audiences to experience drawing as a physical and exploratory process, not just a visual one.

Malcom Barrett
City of Dreams: Aqua – Matters of Time
Barrett reflects on Letchworth’s heritage through the landscapes of the Pix Brook and the Icknield Way, exploring how these spaces have shaped the town’s identity. Using walking, drawing, print, and film, he examines the changing environment, highlighting both its historical significance and gradual disappearance.

Talia Giles
Memories Weigh Heavy
Giles’ intimate series of drawings were created during a period of personal change in temporary living spaces. Her layered interiors explore memory, emotion, and resilience, capturing the everyday in a way that feels deeply personal yet widely relatable.

Alongside the exhibitions, each artist will lead workshops and classes at Broadway Gallery, suitable for all abilities. Visitors can try creative techniques for themselves, gaining insight into the artists’ methods and processes. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
Paul Davey, Arts Officer, says “The Letchworth Open Bursary exhibitions are a fantastic opportunity to support three exceptionally talented artists. Their work is already making a significant impact in our region, and we hope their achievements will inspire others to participate in the 2026 Letchworth Open."
The exhibitions run from Friday 24 April to Saturday 30 May 2026 at Broadway Gallery in Letchworth Garden City. Entry is free.
