Terry Hone

I worked for DuPont, the US multinational chemical company, until 2002 when the pharmaceutical business, of which I was the UK Director of Finance, was taken over by Bristol Myers Squibb. During those 35 years, I was based in a number of countries including Switzerland, South Africa, Turkey and a number of sites in the UK, working in the finance field of a variety of businesses.

My political career began in May 2001, when I was elected as the Conservative member for Letchworth South West on North Herts District Council (NHDC). I was the Deputy Leader and Finance Portfolio Holder on North Herts District Council for 15 years up to May 2017 when, due to taking an Executive position at Herts County Council, I stood down from that position. I sit on a number of NHDC committees.

In 2009 I was elected as a Herts County (HCC) Councillor and was made the Deputy Executive Member for Transformation, Performance and Waste Management. This portfolio included the 2012 London Olympic brief. In May 2013 I was appointed as the Deputy Executive Member for Resources and Transformation. In May 2015 I was made Chairman of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee, an all-party member Committee that holds the administration to account. I moved on from that position in May 2017, when I became the Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Waste Management. From May 2021, I was made Chair of the Development Control Committee and a Scrutiny sub-committee

In addition to my council responsibilities, I am a Governor of Lordship Farm Junior School in Letchworth Garden City, a Peer Reviewer for the Local Government Association and the HCC representative on the Board of the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.
