My formative years were spent in Yorkshire, where I enjoyed a happy childhood, surrounded by a large loving family and many friends. I moved away to train as a primary school teacher – a profession which subsequently took me around the country and abroad. I have retained a passion for early education throughout my life, serving in many roles, including class teacher, SENCo, consultant, advisor and headteacher. I am therefore particularly interested in this aspect of the Heritage Foundation’s work as we aim to make Letchworth ‘a great place to grow up.’
Together with my family, we took the decision to move to Letchworth Garden City approximately 30 years ago. We were attracted by the quality of housing, a bustling town centre with central railway links, and easy access to beautiful countryside walks. We were able to give our own children a happy and enriching childhood, with regular trips to Standalone Farm, the leisure centre, cinema and local library, as well as walks with our dog on the Greenway. Easy access to Cambridge and London was particularly appreciated when the children became teenagers in their growing bid for independence.
I am honoured to serve as a trustee and governor for Letchworth Heritage Foundation. We aim to enrich the community to the benefit of all who reside in the world’s first garden city.
