After several months of work, scaffolding is being removed from The Colonnade and 1–5 Eastcheap, revealing the newly refurbished façades of one of the town centre’s key gateway buildings.
The project has been a long and challenging undertaking, carefully balancing the need to preserve the building’s heritage with modern improvements for residents.
As part of the refurbishment, bespoke timber casement windows have been installed to faithfully recreate the character and detailing of the original windows, while incorporating high-performance double glazing. The improvements are expected to provide greater comfort for residents while also enhancing the building’s energy efficiency.
At the rear of the property, new uPVC windows provide a practical modern solution while maintaining the overall appearance of the building.
The refreshed elevations are complemented by discreet new lighting, while the building’s distinctive architectural detailing at roof level has been carefully preserved. Even essential measures such as pigeon protection have been incorporated with the aim of keeping them as unobtrusive as possible.
The completed refurbishment has restored the building’s distinctive appearance and brought a renewed sense of pride to an important part of the town centre.
