Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation is thrilled to have completed the sale of development land at Talbot Way to partners Barratt David Wilson North Thames. The land, known in the North Herts Local Plan as “LG3” will now be developed in line with the plan to provide a great many benefits to the town.
The development will include houses and apartments – of which 40% will be affordable housing. Orlagh Doyle, Land Manager, from Barratt David Wilson North Thames said: “We’re so pleased to be able to get started on this new development in Letchworth Garden City. We know from the time we’ve spent there what a great place it is to grow up and live, and we’re truly thrilled to be able to give more people the chance to live in this beautiful town.”
The plans for the development (which can be seen in more detail here) include a high-quality landscape-led design, representing a contemporary interpretation of Garden City design and principles, striking the balance between maintaining our heritage and adapting for the modern day. With the environment in mind, the development will result in a minimum of 10% net biodiversity gain and upgrading of the nearby allotments.
Graham Fisher is Chief Executive of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation. He said: “Completing this sale marks an important milestone for our town in addressing local housing need. We’ve listened carefully to residents throughout the planning process, and their feedback has shaped a development that truly reflects Letchworth’s values. I’m excited to see this new chapter unfold.”
Work is anticipated to commence on site mid 2026. You can keep up to date with the development of LG3, and also see the master planning documents and read about the development process so far, at www.letchworth.com/LG3
