Judith Nash

Nominated Governor (Education)

I have lived in Letchworth Garden City for 44 years and applaud the way the Foundation has upheld the Garden City principles over time and how it strives to continue to do so in its ambitious three year strategic plan.

I am an independent educational consultant, former English teacher and senior leader with a passion for enhancing the life chances of young people. In my consultancy role, I have mentored headteachers, developed coaching programmes for teachers and student leadership programmes.

As a governor I want to use my professional expertise to further the Foundation’s aim of supporting learning in Letchworth with programmes such as the creative learning programme and the Letchworth children and families partnership.

The Foundation’s 2015 research programme showed Letchworth Garden City ranked as one of the top 30 per cent of socio-economically deprived neighbourhoods in England. This research resonates with my research undertaken as part of my recent MSc, which highlights the turbulence students, parents and teachers experience in schools in disadvantaged communities. Research emphasises the importance of working with families and the community to overcome a lack of educational aspiration often passed through the generations.  I want to make a difference to the lives of the young people in Letchworth Garden City by contributing to the educational aspects of the Foundation’s strategic plan.
