Grants update - July 2018

The Grants Committee met last month to discuss the latest round of applications under the General grants programme. Awarding up to £50,000, these grants are available to any not for profit local, regional or national charitable organisation whose work with enhance the life of Letchworth residents. We normally have a diverse range of applicants for this programme and July was no different.

Grants were awarded to:

  • Angels Support Group, a local charity supporting parents and carers of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and or Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Our funds will be used to assist children supported by this group in dealing with the anxiety of the transition from junior to secondary education.
  • Letchworth Baptist Church, were awarded a grant to help Transform, a three-day activity programme for local children during the school holidays. We’re also supporting Kings Community Church, with a grant to support the running of a holiday club during the school holidays.
  • Best Before Café, a fantastic new initiative which takes surplus and unsold supermarket food and uses this to provide light snacks and groceries for people to take away on a pay-as-you-feel basis. Initially based at Mrs Howard Memorial Hall and open Wednesdays between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm, our grant will help towards start-up costs.
  • Pixmore Junior School, who were awarded £3,500 to help with the funding of an additional pedestrian access route into the school, helping to create a safer route to school to encourage more children to walk and to reduce the heavy traffic at the current entrance.
