Just a few days of left to catch exhibition at the Broadway Gallery, showcasing the photographic talents from residents of Letchworth and the surrounding area. The Broadway Plinth – Benjamin Cohen: The Weight of the Tongue: Today, Thursday until Sunday, December 1. The last few days of The Broadway Plinth a new element to the gallery, a permanent fixture that will highlight single and small groupings of work by contemporary sculptors. Cornelia Parker: One Day This Glass Will break: Today, Thursday until Sunday, December 1. The last few days of Southbank Centre’s Hayward Gallery Touring - One Day This Glass Will Break, an exhibition of twenty large-scale photogravures by Cornelia Parker from three experimental series. Liz Harrington: Where Land Runs Out: Today, Thursday until Sunday, December 1. Focusing on transience and the fragility of the natural environment, Where Land Runs Out is part of a wider, ongoing project based on the Suffolk coast at Orford Ness and Shingle Street. Present Laughter: Today, Thursday. National Theatre Live: Matthew Warchus directs Andrew Scott in Noël Coward’s provocative comedy Present Laughter. As he prepares to embark on an overseas tour, star actor Garry Essendine’s colourful life is in danger of spiralling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, sex, panic and soul-searching. Jazz Appreciation Society: Today, Thursday. Bill Hopping will be presenting a programme of music under the intriguing title “Little Black Sticks”. Puzzled?  It’s instrumental in nature – an enticement to come along and hear some terrific music.  Plus a full supporting programme, as always. Gordon Buchanan - Animal Families and Me: Friday, November 29. Have you got any burning wildlife questions? BBC TV wildlife presenter and cameraman Gordon Buchanan has travelled the planet - from South America, Asia, Africa, Papua New Guinea, Russia and Alaska - and will have some interesting answers! National Tree Planting Day: Saturday, November 30. The Friends of Norton Common are planning to plant 350 Trees & Hedging and they need your help. LALG Textile Group – Stitched paper stars: Tuesday, December 3. Our friendly Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group meet up every month to create, make and experiment with a range of textile techniques and materials. LALG – An evening at the ballet: Tuesday, December 3. Transport and Industrial Heritage Group: Tuesday, December 3. This Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group meets on the first Tuesday monthly to listen to a speaker. The Twelve Days of Christmas: Thursday, December 5. The Arts Society presents a talk by Peter Medhurst. Celebrating Christmas goes back several Millennia – none of them Christian. One was a Roman Feast of Kalends on 1st January, another was the Nordic Festival of Yuletide, based on the winter solstice – both embracing drunkenness and gluttony.
