Forty Plus Cycling Club: Today, Thursday. This week’s ride is to Abington Pigotts, with lunch at The Pig and Abbot. Next week’s ride is to Maulden, with lunch at The Dog and Badger. Meet at 10.30am. Hitchin and Letchworth RSPB: Friday, January 5. Steve Cham will be giving a talk all about dragonflies titled “In Search of Damsels and Dragons.” At The Settlement, 229 Nevells Road. Starts 7.30pm. Visitors very welcome £3.

Wilbury Community Café: Saturday, January 6. Free cuppas and cakes, family play sessions, yoga, Maths Matters and Youth Council activities. Everyone welcome. At Wilbury Hall, Bedford Road. From 10.45am to 12.30pm. Free.

Elvis Presley’s 83rd Birthday Celebration Party: Saturday, January 6. The National 1950’s/1960’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Fan Club of Great Britain presents ‘The Ultimate Elvis Experience’. Featuring live on stage entertainment. At The Broadway Hotel, Broadway. Starts 8pm – until late. (Doors open at 7pm, no admission after 10pm.) Letchworth Festival - Help Shape 2018: Monday, January 8. A meeting is being held to help shape the Letchworth Festival which runs from Saturday, June 16 – Sunday, July 1. At David’s Bookshop, 14 Eastcheap. Starts 7.30pm. For more details email contact@letchworthfestival.org.

Utopian Study Group: Tuesday, January 9. This Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group will discuss the future direction of the group, e.g. utopian ideas of early Letchworth or the utopian ideas around the world through the centuries. Letchworth Natural History Society: Tuesday, January 9. Wales – Brian Sawford will show us photos and talk about the Principality’s birds and plants. Fantastic Plastic: Tuesday, January 9. Join Transition Town Letchworth for their Tuesday talk on – ‘What can we do to reduce the harmful impacts of plastic on the planet, starting at home’. Science Books: Wednesday, January 10. Every other month this Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group will discusses a science book chosen by members. This month’s book is The Brain by David Eagleman. Exploring What Matters – Action for Happiness Course: Book your place now for this 8-week course that gives you the chance to meet friendly, like-minded people and find simple ways to make yourself and others happy. The course will run on Thursdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm from the Jan 18 to March 15, with a break for half term. At Mrs Howard Memorial Hall, Norton Way South. The course is run by local volunteers and based on donations - so please feel free to give whatever you can afford. Gordon House – Paint to Print: On now until Sunday, January 28. Gordon House (1932-2004) was an influential artist and graphic designer who was brought up in Letchworth Garden City. This exhibition displays a selection of his paintings and prints focusing on the 1960s. At Broadway Studio and Gallery, 2 The Arcade. Open Wednesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm, Sunday 10am – 4pm.
