Volunteer Fair and Thank You Event: Today, Thursday. TeamHerts Volunteering is collaborating with North Herts CVS to host a Volunteers Fair & Thank You Event for National Volunteers Week. There will be stalls offering information about the work they do and how to volunteer with them. This is a great opportunity if you want to know what else is going on in your community. Five Rhythms – Summer Waves Workshop: Saturday, June 8. A workshop with Ruth Hirst accredited FiveRhythms Teacher. Greek Night: Saturday, June 8. Music and Dance from the Greek Islands with Judy Hammond, teacher of the Alexander Technique, movement and dance. Traditional Greek island music is real soul food, full of passion, yearning and exuberance. As well as being huge fun recent research has found that dancing in unison in a group is the single most powerful way to elevate mood and enhance feelings of wellbeing. Calm relaxed T’chi Movement calming the mind: Sunday, June 9. Improving Balance with Ian Deavin, a certified instructor of the Chinese Internal Arts Association and a member of the T’ai Chi Union of Great Britain. Family Arts Studio – Reuse and Recycle: Sunday, June 9. Join artist Iona McCuaig for a hands on craft activity in the Studio. Transition Town Letchworth – Beauty and the Bike: Tuesday, June 11. TTL will be showing the film Beauty and the Bike, to learn why girls in cycling-friendly countries continue to cycle into adulthood, whilst in many other countries, they tend to give up during the teenage years. Get Outdoors, Get Active: On now until Wednesday, July 17. ‘Get Outdoors Get Active' is a weekly event that gives you the chance to care for the green spaces in your local community by working together with like-minded people. By spending just two hours a week working on a green space, you will greatly improve your physical and mental health as well as learn a range of new skills that can be used to strengthen your employability skills and your CV. This course is aimed at 19 - 25 year olds and takes place in Howard Park and Gardens. There is no session on 19 June. From 10.30am – 12.30pm. Lois Walpole – Weaving Ghosts: On now until Sunday, September 8. A new exhibition which focuses on ghost gear, basketry skills and sustainability. The work of Lois Walpole is intrinsically linked to the materials used to create it and tells a powerful story of our attitude to the environment, exploring the artist’s personal history to express universal issues. Richard Clare – You left the door wide open all night: On now until Sunday, September 8. This exhibition represents a small selection of the work Richard Clare has produced since settling in Letchworth in 2010. Previously an abstract painter while living in Barcelona, Clare’s recent work has become more figurative, developing a cast of characters and motifs that inhabit the artist’s ‘other world’, a psychologically skewed universe that, although dreamlike, they are given a realness and authenticity through expressive and intuitive mark-making.
