COVID-19 grant to support community

We've adapted our grants programme to help Letchworth based groups and charities provide relief to the community during the COVID-19 emergency.

The programme, which awards funding each year to Letchworth groups, clubs and individuals, has been repurposed to create a new COVID-19 Catalyst Grant, offering grants from £200 - £8,000.

Now the Foundation wants to hear from charities and groups who will be working during the crisis to ensure people’s basic needs such as food, shelter, health and socialisation are being met.

Alastair Stewart, Head of Grants, Partnerships & Community Services said: “The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to a significant change in people's lives and personal circumstances in a short space of time and is likely to continue for several months. It is important that we, as a place-based charitable foundation, work with our community to find ways to support our more vulnerable residents.

“We are particularly keen to hear from charities, voluntary and community-based groups or organisations engaged in community aid, food poverty, medication, mental wellbeing, financial advice and social isolation.”

A second strand of funding has been created for charities where their traditional, planned fundraising and income sources have been lost and the charity’s future is at risk due to lack of money and resources.

Alastair continued: “This larger pot of money will offer initial grant funding to help them adapt to their current and future needs. These needs will be unique to each organisation and the focus will be on a recovery model where the funding reduces over the period of the grant. This will enable the charity to return to a level of operational stability.

“We are here to help and are open to having conversations with charities or organisations that are currently working with Letchworth residents and want to support those affected by the impact of COVID-19.”

Groups can apply now by answering the following questions and emailing them to Alastair.stewart@letchworth.com

· Why does your group need funding?
· What will your group do with the funding?
· How much funding does your group require?
