Sam Villis

General Governor

I moved to Letchworth with my husband 9.5 years ago, quickly falling in love with the place. Now my son goes to Woolgrove, an exceptional environment where he is learning and growing every day. The community around the school is one I’m very proud to be part of.

Letchworth is an outstanding ‘15 minute city’, we are so lucky to have so many great amenities on our doorstep. I’m applying to be a governor because I care about making this a wonderful and equitable place for everyone.

I’ve been working in ‘digital’ for over 15 years, across web design, social media and advertising and then finally landing in the civil service where I worked in digital roles including Government Digital Service and DLUHC. At DLUHC I was part of a team supporting local authorities to deliver services for the public, where I managed and supported £1.5m of Children’s Social Care projects.

I’ve since moved to Social Finance, a not-for-profit dedicated to designing, funding and scaling solutions to complex social problems. In this role I span digital, data and service/human centred design roles. Most recently I’ve been working with the team supporting areas that are part of the Changing Futures programme, a government programme designed to support those experiencing multiple disadvantage. I’ve also been working with Social Care Wales to design a community of practice. I am currently looking into the care sector in Wales’ needs around training in Research, Innovation and improvement, and working on the delivery of apprenticeships in the Social Care data sector.

I bring a good understanding of the social care sector, a large network of connections within and outside of government in the digital sector, and  connections via my current work to a number of VCSs and community organisations. I have strong communication and problem-solving ability through my digital and service design roles.
