Greenway Day is back! Activities and adventure for all the family in the great outdoors

Sports sessions, cycling, walking and interactive workshops are just some of the activities taking place for Greenway Day on Saturday 23 September.

Organised by Active Letchworth, with the support of the Heritage Foundation, NHDC and Stevenage Leisure Limited, this free event encourages people of all ages to get active on the Greenway route, which surrounds Letchworth Garden City.

Helen Newman, Partnership Lead for Active Letchworth, said: “Last year was our first year so it was a bit of an experiment.  It proved to be a big hit with families in particular, but we want people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to join us this year. There’s no need to worry about age, experience or ability because there’s something for everyone.”

Three different routes have been created across the town, where people can walk, run, cycle and take part in activities.  First up is Standalone Farm, which will host family exercise classes with Letchworth Fitness, interactive workshops with Imajica Theatre Company, tennis activities with Letchworth Sports & Tennis Club and you can try your hand at golf.

Fun fitness tests, run by Nuffield Health, will be hosted at The Grange Recreation Ground, as well as taster exercise classes with Stevenage Leisure Limited and an assault course led by Sports 121.

Meanwhile at North Herts Leisure Centre, you can take part in ‘try-it badminton’ and have a go on the Boditrax machine to find out your body composition and receive expert advice to keep you active. After all that, you can relax in the newly refurbished café.

Contract Manager for Stevenage Leisure Limited, Lee Medlock said: “SLL is looking forward to working in Partnership with the Heritage Foundation for Active Letchworth’s Greenway Day. One of our key objectives is to improve the health and wellbeing of our local community, therefore to be involved in such a fantastic event is a great opportunity to work together.”

Greenway Day runs from 10am to 2:30pm on Saturday 23 September. For more information, visit Active Letchworth’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/activeletchworth or email active@letchworth.com
